Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

We performed compression tests, extended column tests and propagation saw tests on a snow pit at about 7,600 feet on a sheltered 32 degree slope facing 40 degrees.

A rain crust was observed about 20 cm down from the surface.  Any failures observed were directly below this layer with grains obsered to be faceted rounded particles.  Our results are:  CTH Q2; ECTX; PST 90/100 SF.

We believe this coincides with the observations made yesterday (1/9) at Red Lake Peak near Carson Pass.
