Avalanche Course Scholarships

As part of our mission to educate the public and to create a better backcountry community, the Sierra Avalanche Center is offering scholarships for avalanche education this season.  These scholarships are designed to help create a more well-educated community by providing scholarships towards American Avalanche Association approved Level 1,  Level 2, Rescue, and Pro - 1 courses.

To apply for one of these scholarships please fill out this online application. The deadline for submitting scholarship applications is Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

An ideal candidate is a person who lives, recreates or performs snow oriented work in the SAC forecast area. Candidates should already be skiing or snowboarding, mountaineering or traveling on snow and not someone looking to begin a new sport. Recipients are required to provide photos and a summary to SAC after their course.

Past scholarship recipients have been skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers, scientists, recreational backcountry users, newer (but not brand-new) to the sport as well as backcountry users with decades of experience but never taken an avalanche course, professional guides, professional ski patrollers, ski/snowboard coaches, volunteer patrollers, professional skiers, youth, non-youths, men, and women.

This program is made possible by the donors from within our community.  If the avalanche forecast and scholarship programs like these are something you would like to see continue please click on the link below and help donation.  It's donations like yours that help keep these programs continue.  Thank you for your support.
