Natural Wind Slab Avalanche on Tamarack Peak

We observed a natural wind slab avalanche on the far East Ridge of Tamarack Peak today during the storm.  Around 2 feet of recent storm snow with gale force winds have built out cornices and created large wind slabs.  This avalanche was most likely triggered by a natural cornice collapse that failed the wind slab avalanche on the slope.  The terrain where this avalanche occurred is fairly small and contained and partially funnels down into a larger gully feature.  This wind slab avalanche had very wide propagation with the entire bowl avalanching and propagating around a small terrain feature, behaving much more like a persistent slab avalanche than a wind slab.  We think this avalanche failed on near surface facets that formed pre storm and started to get buried on Dec 11 and that was responsible for the wide propagation.  This avalanche was 150' wide and ran 250'downslope, with a crown up to 3 feet deep.  R5, D2.
