More detailed information about the snowpack:

A thin breakable crust existed on the northerly aspects at all elevations in this area. This crust continues to break down and has become much more fragile since it formed during the last rain event. A layer of weak snow exists under the crust. Below these surface layers the snowpack remains strong and well consolidated.

On the southerly aspects melt-freeze conditions dominate the snowpack. Today the light east winds and cooler temperatures kept the open SE-S-SW aspects from softening very much. These slopes remained mostly frozen into the afternoon.
