More detailed information about the snowpack: 

In general 20 to 30 cm of recent, settled storm snow exists in this area. Basal ice layer was noted on NW-N-NE aspects and absent on E-S-W aspects of similar elevation. Basal ice was noted at the low point of travel on northerly aspects at 9,400'. Very early stage faceted crystals were observed at the ice layer/recent storm snow interface. Bond strength at this layer interface was strong in several hand pits in the area and at the snowpit location.
