These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

11/22/2021 - 12:00 Elephants Back Area Carson Pass Area Snowpack Observation The surface rain crust in on a N aspect at ~8650 ft. It was thin and breakable in this area with weak snow below it. The layer of ice at the base of the snowpack. N Facing aspects on Round Top. We could see the glare of crusts on the surface as the sun reflected off them. The sun exposed southerly aspects on Red Lake Peak were bare ground. Forecaster

11/19/2021 - 11:00 Tamarack Peak Mount Rose Area Snowpack Observation The middle part of the snowpack continues to facet and weaken over time. Continuous snow coverage above 9000' on N and E aspects. Very minor cracking in a couple areas right off the ridge with up to 4'' of wind slab. Forecaster
11/16/2021 - 23:15 Rubicon Peak West Shore Area Snowpack Observation Little to no snow cover on northerly aspects below 7,800'. Continuous snow cover at about 8,200' on northerly aspects. A 2 to 2.5 foot deep snowpack just below 9,000' on N aspect terrain. Artificial load of 15 cm slab on PST gave PST 28/100 end result on facets below surface crust. Looking south from near the summit of Rubicon shows snow covered northerly aspects. Looking north from near the summit of Rubicon Peak shows mostly bare ground on southerly aspects and lower elevation areas. Forecaster

Lola - NE Ridge Independence Lake Area Snowpack Observation Patchy snowcover on the transition from NE to E aspects around 7,800' Supportable wet snow, corn like conditions on NNE aspects we traveled in the 7,800' to 8,500' elevation range. Looking across at the Mt. Lola summit bowl (8,800' to 9.000' N-NE-E aspects), snowcover appeared decent. Forecaster
