Cabin Creek, Deep Creek, or Pole Creek Area
8-10 mm surface hoar at the snowpit location. Surface was widespread at mostly +/-10mm all accross these lower open slopes of Silver Peak. As I ascended higher on the peak blowing snow could be seen near the summit. Surface hoar was present at 5-10 mm up to the ridgetop where wind protected such as in the left side foregroud here with moderate to intense drifting snow just a little further up the ridge. Poking at the edge of this obvious wind slab revealed instability. Large surface hoar on a W aspect that had laid down by midday. Forecaster
