Soft wind slabs on Carson Pass

OBS- I started my tour @ 8600' around 0930. Temps were below freezing with broken skies and intermittent glimpses of sun. Winds were extreme with moderate to intense blowing snow. While making the approach in below tree line, there was 25-30cm of new snow in protected areas. Dendrites and rimmed grains were widespread on the surface of the snow. Testing small N-NE-E facing slopes resulted in soft wind slabs to release on the new/old interface. Nearing tree line and the ridge, wind effected areas became stiffer and eventually was scoured on NW-W-SW facing slopes. Cloud cover decreased throughout the day and the wind persisted to transport snow. Temps stayed below freezing.

Pit Profile- Pit showed two really distinct layers, the Dec 11th Layer and the interface of new and old snow from last night. This layer scored CT15 Q1 and CT23 Q1 during the compression test. It also scored ECTP18 at this same layer down 45cm. The Dec.11th scored a ECTX staying intact.
