Continued inch-per-hour at Spooner

Light NE winds and consistent S2 snowfall throughout the day at Spooner today.  Numerous test slopes produced sluffing but no indications of slab instability - consistent with formal tests.

Pic 1: 3ft of storm snow on top of the rain layer, at one of the shallower sites sampled (E aspect at 8000ft). HS at this site was 265cm, and the top of the rain layer was 195cm. Aspect didn't make much difference today, but as we gained elevation to our max of 8800ft, new snow on top of rain layer increased to 4ft in wind sheltered terrain, and highly variable new snow heights in wind exposed terrain. Big wind drifts observed, but no wind slabs were encountered.

Pic 2: Graupel layer just above rain layer, but much smaller pieces than observed yesterday at Blue Lakes, and also a thinner layer. Column tests did not indicate propagation was likely within the recent storm snow. The graupel layer was well within the reach of tests but still was not reactive. Top of rain layer beginning to freeze into a crust.
