High Winds and Blowing Snow on Carson

Driving down to Carson Pass the snow level seemed to be around 7500 ft. We saw several recent roller balls and loose wet snow instabilities going around Emerald Bay. Once we got to Carson Pass, the winds were howling as expected. They had scoured snow surfaces on all aspects leaving firm rain crusts exposed in many places. New snow had just started to accumulate with 1 to 2 inches in some places and more like 3 to 4 inches on a few wind-loaded slopes. The new snow would stick to the frozen crust until I weighted my ski, then it would pop loose and send my ski sliding sideways on the crust. Flat light and large areas of exposed frozen rain crust made travel on skis difficult at best (see photos). 

Driving back to the office we noticed that snow level had fallen to around 6700 ft. and precipitation intensity seemed to increase.
