Weak layer at Sunrise Bowl

I observed wind effect across great reaches of terrain on the generally exposed skintrack. Ski penetration was about 2 in and pole penetration was 1.5 ft. At about 7600ft on a NW facing slope I dug a shallow pit and observed a distinct layer of weakness at about 4-6in depth that gave way with a four finger test. The rest of the snowpack did not give with pressure from 1, 2, or 4 fingers. I saw no roller balls, wet slides, or other signs of loose wet avalanches, which may be related to the lower slope angles in this zone.
