Sensitive Wind Slabs on Tamarack

Took a tour this morning out to Mount Houghton, with a mind of avoiding aspects that could still be holding the persistent weak layer. Winds were out of the northwest - norhteast. Conditions on Houghton's south face were surprisingly favorable, given the primarily southern aspect. A low sun-angle helped. We did encounter some wind slabs above tree line, but they were small, isolated, and on low-angle slopes. After skiing down Houghton, we climbed the northwest ridge of Tamarack, where we saw several signs of hard wind in the area. Some parts of the ridgeline were scoured entirely to the ground, and we encountered several wind slabs on the west facing slope of Tamarack.. Based on the loading, it seems that these slabs formed due to a strong wind out of the north and east. A small test slope showed that slabs in this area were quite reactive. We were in low-angle terrain, but in steeper terrain with larger wind slabs, this could be a serious problem. Hourglass bowl had been stripped of quite a bit of snow.
