Windy and Light Snow on Mt. Rose

We toured in the Chickadee Ridge and Tahoe Meadows area today.  A variety of thin rain crusts exist up to at least 9000' throughout this area on all aspects.  This thin rain crust was formed early Thursday morning during a light rain event.  On northerly aspects above 8700', the crust was thin and soft and provided desent ski conditions.  Below 8700', the crust was slightly thicker and more breakable on all aspects with marginal travel conditions.  Winds were moderate and increasing to strong along exposed ridges.  Light snow began to fall late morning. As soon as it started snowing, wind transported snow started to collect on the leeward side of terrain features. Since accumulation was limited these slightly drifted areas only amounted to slightly more dust on top of the crusts in those areas.
