Loose wet slide on Tallac

Last night had a solid refreeze and ski crampons were essential skinning up the north east side of Tallac early this morning.

Descending off the south side a little after 10am the top .5" of snow started to soften. In a steeper ~40 degree section of a narrow south east facing chute that drops into Cathedral bowl there was suddenly a couple inches of wet snow with a well defined crust below. After making a turn that generated a lot of loose sluff it congealed into a slab like flow that collected more loose snow and ran to the bottom of the chute. Wouldn't have burried anyone but would have knocked a person off their feet.

The day never warmed as much as I was expecting above 8k ft and a light breeze in the morning followd by hazy clouds in the afternoon helped avoid deeper wet snow outside of the narrow chute. Didn't see any pin wheels / roller balls elswhere above 8k. Did see evidence of a lot of wet loose naturals around rock bands from earlier in the week. Also still a lot of overhanging cornices on N-NE-E aspects.

When exiting saw a few pinwheels and rollerballs below 8k but the primary danger down there was avoiding the 1-2 ft deep trenches left by people making turns in very wet snow earlier in the week.
