Calm day with high clouds on Rubicon

Spent most of the day on Rubicon traveling mostly on N and NE slopes; were looking to check out how the new snow was settling and whether sun had started to affect E/NE facing slopes. Day started out cold at the trailhead (13 deg at the car ~6 AM) and then rapidly warmed up, although widespread high cloud cover kept much of the stronger sun at bay for most of the day. Very calm, no wind all day. Still, warm enough that by 11, meltwater had begun to drip out of the trees on NE facing slopes and despite no wind, lots of tree bombs. NE and easterly slopes experienced warming and melting today; we observed some roller balls off our tracks on steeper slopes and by 2, those aspects had started to form a zipper crust as temperatures began to cool off again. Did experience glopping midday while skinning through open forested areas at mid elevations. We did some limited travel on an E and SE facing slope around 7000 ft, which had a thick but breakable MF crust (maybe 0.5 inch thick) that was fine for skinning but we avoided skiing on. Also found some MF crusts on low angle NE facing slopes. Lastly, also observed some wind slab (although heavily tracked, but sounded quite hollow) on N/NW slopes above treeline. Did not see any signs of crowns or avalanche activity looking back into Desolation.
