Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Ski tour covering all aspects between 8,600' and 9,900' on Tamarack Peak revealed no evidence of instability. Snowpit on the Far East Ridge to examine Nov 9 basal layer showed that this layer is no longer likely to propagate fractures in this location. Significant rounding of the old facet layer has occurred.

Snow surface conditions consisted of a supportable rain crust on all aspects below 9,500' and a supportable melt freeze crust above 9,500' to the summit at 9,900' on all E-SE-S-SW aspects. Melting of surface snow was very isolated and limited only to true S aspects with direct sun exposure. NW-N-NE aspects above 9,500' were a mix of thin melt freeze crust and pockets of unconsolidated snow. Shaded S aspects remained frozen at all elevations traveled.
