More detailed information about the snowpack: 

 Winds were transporting snow all day. New snow weakness still fragile even though the break in the storms today has allowed these weaknesses to gain some strength. Tests in this area starting to indicate that the weak sugary crystals below the Jan 11 crust may not be able to hold much more new snow. Most recent snow was wind affected and "punchy". Snow surface was wind affected all the way down to 6800'.

Some skier-triggered cracking occurred if the slope was already undercut.
