Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured in the Mt. Rose area from 8800' to 10, 500'.  2'' rain crust, from the 1/13 rain event, up to and present to at least 9400'.  The east winds have scoured all exposed N-E aspects creating firm wind board condition that were mainly supportive.  On the solar aspects and in more protected terrain there was a mixed bag of crusts and sticky wet snow softening throughout the day.  At 11am at 10,500' air temp was 1.5c.  Very little to no wind transport of snow from the moderate E winds today.  Most upper elevations are firmed up/scoured from the rain or heavy snow and the moderate to strong east winds.

Photo#1: North exposed terrain above 10k, wind scoured from recent east winds to firm but edgeable wind board.

Photo#2:  Roller ball activity from a ski cut around 9700', SE aspect, 12:00pm.
