Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 

No evidence of rain on snow during Jan 13 precipitation event above 9,100' in this area. On N-NE-E aspects and shaded areas above 9,100' a 13cm layer of decomposing fragments and rounds existed below a very thin melt freeze crust at the snow surface as noted in the pit profile.

On SE-S-SW aspects widespread melt-freeze conditions were occurring up to the highest elevation traveled of 10,150'. The snow surface remained supportable in all areas traveled between 10,150' and 8,650' when I left the area at 1pm. Ski penetration never exceeded 5cm.
