Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Slow but steady snow surface melting occurring at the upper elevations today. More freezing than melting has occurred over the past two days. At noon at the noted lat/long (S aspect at 9,400'), surface melt had occurred in the top 5 cm on the snowpack. Below the melt layer, 35 cm of knife hard ice from previous melt freeze existed. The snowpack remained very supportable on SE-S aspects between 9,700' down to 7,400' when I left the area at 1:45 pm. At 1:30 pm at 39.278743,-119.952722 (S aspect at 7,600') surface wet snow was up to 15 cm deep with a 5 cm layer of pencil+ hard ice below. Below the ice layer was approx 1 m of wet snow down to ground level per ski pole probing. Ski and boot pen in this entire area never exceeded 10 cm.
