More detailed information about the snowpack: 

No significant signs of storm snow instability during the morning hours on N-NE-E aspects. Additional testpits at 39.316769, -119.919376 and 39.317532, -119.909720 produced very similar profiles and test results to Hourglass pit graphed above.

Around 11:30am signs of warming instability became apparent on E-SE aspects.

Photo 1: Intentional ski cut of test slope produced slab failure on the density/upper weak layer noted in all pit profiles during the morning. Location at noted lat/long on Google map link above. 9,600', E aspect, 42 degree convexity.
