Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Collapsing of the upper facet/crust layer was highly localized an inconsistent on NW-N-NE aspects in the area. Weak layer propagation tests at the snowpit indicated that propagation was unlikely. Minor cracking associated with collapse of the weak layer was noted around 100' east of the pit location along the ridgetop. An isolated whumph occurred just to the north and down slope of the pit location at around 7,200'. A quick test pit at this location revealed ECTP-21 on the crust/facet layer. A number of ski and snowmobile cuts on NW-N-NE aspect 32 to 42 degree slopes in the area did not produce any observable snowpack failure.
