More detailed information about the snowpack: 

N-NE-E aspects near and above treeline in this area were heavily scoured  by the strong N-NE-E winds that occurred earlier this fall and winter.  In most areas these winds scoured all of this season's snow away leaving  behind patches of hard icy snow from last year and lots of bare ground.  Below treeline patches of this seasons snow still exist, but these  patches are discontinuous and well anchored.
