More detailed information about the snowpack: 

I suspect that the ice layers near the surface are percolation layers from the surface MFcr, and are influencing the slab characteristics and preventing propogation on ECTs. The facets below the rain crust were my primary concern at this location on 20120307, but in today's pit this layer had gained strength, shifting my primary concern to the well developed facets above the rain crust.
