Basal ice layer exists in most open areas, but is absent in many areas with significant tree canopy cover. Near surface facets at this location are not as well developed as those recently observed in the Carson Range. Moist snow at the surface allowed for skier triggered roller balls up to 1.5 feet in diameter.
