We went to Jakes to conduct snowpack obs. On the flats some whumpfingh was heard / felt. We dug a couple pits on a northeast facing aspect above and close to the road there was about 2' of snow on the ground and 3'-4' in lee areas. Our snowpit showed a sugary weak layer at the bottom of the snowpack, atop of which sits a styrofoamy weak layer. In 2 of 3 ECTs, the column released upon cutting the back of it to isolate it, one other took a couple hard taps to a shovel. The first two released all the way to the ground (again only ~ 3' deep) and the one that took tapping broke at the strofoam layer ~ 2' deep.

There appears to be a long and untraditionally mellow skin track up Jakes. We only took it up to the bench and the few tracks coming down from the bench all stayed on or very close to the skin track. While the snow was light and fluffy, cover remains very thin.
