Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Minimal evidence of wind effects in this area. Above treeline just below ridgetops there was some recent wind slab formation, but hand pits and ski cuts on NE-E aspect test slopes revealed no evidence of instability. Several hand pits dug between 8,000' and 8,500' on NE-E aspects revealed spotty thin crust/facet layer below the 6 inches of recent new snow. This layer was too spotty to be reactive and ski penetration went below the layer. This layer was not observed outside this elevation range. SE-S aspects held supportable melt freeze crust below the recent new snow up to at least 8,900'. Cold air temps and low level solar radiation kept any human triggered or naturally occurring roller balls from forming.
