More detailed information about the snowpack:

Through mid-afternoon, a cool SW wind and shallow loose snow limited boot and ski pen to 10cm on solar aspects between the Caples Lake Cal Trans station and Meiss Ridge. No signs of wet instabilities observed on solar aspects.

Pit and pic: Although faceted layers were observed here, they are interrupted by vertical ice columns and the grains press together easily in the hand. Evidence of previous wind loading without evidence of wind slab instabilities.

Increasing SW winds in the afternoon, with no wind transport observed due to saturated, large grains on windward aspects.
