Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Deep and stable snowpack on the North side of Castle Peak.  The approach from the south is skiable all the way from the Castle Peak trailhead but there are many areas of dirt, rocks and open water to be navigated.  Cloud ceiling was at 8000' for most of the morning with cool humid temps above that with moderate south winds.  There was a melt freeze crust on all aspects and above 8000' this crust was ski supportive and remained firm all morning.  Below 7600' the snow was very punchy and did not freeze last night-in these area boot pen was shin deep.  Most of the steeper avalanche terrain on the south side is burnt out and unskiable.

Photos:  Cloud ceiling at 8000' with thin coverage on the south side.
