Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

In addition to the attached snowpit, I dug a quick pit 600 feet higher on Red Lake Peak (38.71626, -119.98182). At this location snow height was only 66cms and the 12/15 rain crust was not present.

The recent avalanche in photo 1 was intentionally triggered by a group on 12/27/16. Their Observation is here: http://www.sierraavalanchecenter.org/observation/avalanche/2016/dec/27/slab-avalanche-test-slope

The included snowpit was conducted at a similar elevation but on a more north facing slope than the more east facing avalanche.

South facing slopes in this area displayed evidence of recent warming related avalanche activity.
