Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Snowpit work in the Deep Creek area showed a well bonded and uniform snowpack.  2 layers of previously buried surface hoar (1/9 and 1/13 layers) were found within the snowpack.  Both of these layers showed large surface hoar grains that were rounding and both of these layers were not reactive to snowpack tests.  Snowpack tests were also targeted at the recent rain crusts with no signs of significant instability at this point.  5-10cm of unconsolidated snow existed on northerly aspects.  Below 7000' the 1/23 rain crust was just under the snow surface and was consistently felt.  No signs of any wind effect from last nights NE winds.
