Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Little to no precipitation during the mid day hours ahead of the next approaching storm system in the Mount Rose area (Light precip seemed ongoing along the Sierra Crest). Light snow flurries observed at times, but mainly no precipitation. Snow level along the Mount Rose Hwy seems to be around 7,400'.  In the elevations traveled between 8,320' and 9,520', Snow surface conditions on all aspects consisted of 1 to 2 cm of 1 to 3 mm graupel (snow pellets) on top of 2 to 3 cm thick semi breakable/semi supportable melt freeze crust. Snowpit data collected at the noted lat/long indicated that the existing snowpack is in good condition to handle new snow loading. No problematic weak layers were observed beyond the surface graupel layer.
