Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Wind scoured snow in exposed areas off of ridges and then soft unconsolidated snow on North aspects in steep and open areas.  In lower angle northerly terrain and in heavily treed areas snow surface was heavier, sticky and then wet below around 8600'.  On south aspects that have been wind scoured spring like snow was present that was ski supportive.  In most other E-SE-S-SW aspects snow was wet and punchy by late morning.  

Photo#1:  Pinwheels and roller balls above road cuts starting as early as 9am on east aspects on the drive to Carson Pass.

Photo#2:  Wind scoured winter snow on north aspects above 9000' in this area.

Photo#3:  Transition to melt freeze crust starting but not ski supportive in most areas.  Ski pen 10cm and boot pen 20-30cm at 8400' in meadow at mid day.

Photo#4:  Large cornices and wind features in this area from the last couple storms.
