More detailed information about the snowpack:

Significant amounts of blowing snow near treeline as well as above 7,500' in open areas below treeline today on Echo Peak. Despite the ongoing wind loading, ski cuts on small wind affected test slopes produced little in way of cracking. Some wind slab structure was evident in hand pits in wind affected areas, but actual evidence of instability was limited.

Rain soaked old snow existed below the 25 to 30 cm of new snow in the area up to the high point of travel around 8,600'. This matched well with reports of rain to 9,000' yesterday.
