More detailed information about the snowpack:

There has been a few days of warming temperatures and clear skies before the temperature dropped yesterday and 20 cm of new snow fell last night.  Previously the snowpack was wet and isothermal in this area.  Now, there is a light layer of unconsolidated new snow on top of about 60 cm of frozen slab, with a weak layer near the ground. Although there was no propagation of the easy failure at around 60 cm, a shovel pull on the remaining column brought it down as one homogeneous lump with a Q1 failure at the bottom. See photos.
