Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Snow coverage exists above 7400' in open areas on mostly northerly aspects.  Heavily treed areas had significantly less snow, with the road mostly snow covered up to the bridge where it crosses the creek.  Weak faceted snow exists in the upper to mid snowpack at all elevations.  In isolated areas, soft slabs and hard wind slabs existed above this weak faceted layer.  Snowpack tests showed unstable results on the faceted layer at our snowpit in below treeline terrain.  Cracking was also observed in below treeline terrain where a weak surface slab was cracking down into the faceted snow below.  Signs of instabilities were found in isolated areas with much of the terrain not showing any signs of unstable snow.
