More detailed information about the snowpack:

Despite evidence of recent wind loading and recent Wind Slab instabilities (pic 1), ECTs and numerous test slopes failed to show signs of slab instability today (pic 2, and we put additional tracks onto this slope and several similar test slopes in the area today). Pic 3: Very recent, inconsequential Loose Dry instabilities where they would be expected.

Temperatures remained close to freezing, and although sunny slopes were beginning to get heavy snow, no signs of Loose Wet instabilities were observed today. Moderate SW winds in the morning gave way to calm winds by mid-day.

Although hwy 4 remains closed where hwy 89 splits to Monitor Pass, as it has been all season, during the day today CalTrans plowed the road between this closure and the normal closure at Wolf Creek Rd. Snowmobile travel is not recommended until they open the hwy 4 gate at Monitor for the more typical Wolf Creek parking.
