Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Below 7,500', new snow amounts of two inches or less sat on top of very rough rain/melt-freeze crust. This supportable crust was 4 inches thick. Below the crust were several feet of wet snow in a non-refrozen state. Above 7,500' snow surface conditions became smoother and storm snow amounts increased. At mid day, total storm snow amounts in this area were 6 inches or less, depending on elevation.

Winds were unexpectedly light on the summit. Ski cuts on typically wind loaded test slopes along the summit ridge produced only loose dry failures, no sign of problematic wind slabs in the expected locations.
