Around 5 inches of new snow in this area at mid day with significant amounts of additional snowfall forecast. Total snow depth in wind protected areas between 8,600' and 9,600' ranges from 5 to 15 inches. Basal facet layer on upper elevation N-NE aspects (unknown if present on NW aspects) did not show signs of instability under current load, but this may change as the current storm progresses. With the potential for several feet of new snow by Friday morning, questions exist as to how well this layer will support a large, rapidly deposited new snow load.
