Windy day at Incline Peak. Colder than recent temperatures prevented solar aspects from softening. These firm east facing slopes were challenging to skin up in the morning and bone rattely to ski down in the afternoon. Once on more northerly aspects snow was softer thanks to absence of previous melting and presence of near surface facets. While there are many tracks in this area, in open areas below treeline without previous skier traffic soft near surface facets provided enjoyable turns.

A few flakes began to fall as we departed the area around 2pm but no accumulation had occured up to that point.

Photo 1: Rock hard icy conditions on tracked east facing slopes.

Photo 2: Freshly transported snow just east of summit. Much of the east facing terrain below summit was a mix of old ski tracks and old sastrugi, but a few areas were covered by recently wind transported snow.

Photo 3: Below treeline around 5 inches of soft near surface facets provided fun skiing.
