State of the Snowpack for 3/26/2022 - 4/1/2022

  • Increasing melt out on solar aspects at all elevations and on all aspects below 7,000' to 7,500'.
  • Feb 14 facet layer was wetted during the March 23 to 25 timeframe in many areas.
  • The existing snowpack is generally well consolidated. Surface instabilities are the main concern going forward. 
  • Record warmth and poor refreeze conditions lasted through March 27.
  • A storm brought 1 to 7 inches of new snow on March 28. The greatest accumulations were in the southern portion of the forecast area.
  • High pressure built in post storm.
  • Decent to strong overnight snow surface refreezes occurred from March 28 to April 1.
