These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Blowing snow just above treeline loading onto a W aspect. Skier triggered cracking of wind slab formed on Feb 26 (Monday) at treeline on a NE aspect. Skin track refill after ~1 hour. This was of interest due to the well below treeline location on a NE aspect. Forecaster

20'' of heavier storm snow over lighter density snow causing storm slab conditions. Large cracking around skis in BTL terrain with a density change from the heavier storm snow over lighter density old snow. New snow fell as graupel throughout the mid day. Forecaster

Avalanche Observation
Andesite Peak

Donner Summit Area
Small natural storm slab. Small storm slab triggered from below. Wind slab failure on a test slope caused by the natural collapse of a cornice. 1 to 2 foot deep wind slabs failing on the old/new interface on a near treeline wind loaded slope. Triggered from lower angle terrain above the slope. Wind slabs avalanche triggered from the ridge. The avalanche also caused the lower angle slope next to it to shatter but the snow did not slide downhill on the lower angle slope. Shooting crack from lower angle terrain that then becomes a wind slab avalanche in the nearby steeper terrain. Forecaster
