These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Small wind slab triggered by large cornice drop on a ENE facing test slope at 8040 ft. See video. Small 1 to 4 inch slab triggered on an E facing test slope @ 8040 ft. that had just received a short period of sun-exposure The other side of the small slab triggered on the E facing test slope. New snow and some wind-loading filling in the skin track @ 8160 ft. About 30 cm (1 ft) of new snow resting on top of a moist crust on top of wet snow in a meadow at 7500 ft. Forecaster

Snow transport over the saddle point between the ridges. The wind direction is ENE Small cracks in the snowpack near tree line. At this elevation the cracks are only between skis Wind erosion pattern near treeline. Wind direction is E Larger cracks in the newly forming slab above the treeline. The slab is anout 2-3 inch thick. Cracks did not propagate further than 2-3 feet Windblown structure at the pin drop location. The structures are facing east. Wind slab failure triggered by a ski kick on an E-ENE facing test slope. Skier triggered wind-slab failure on a wind-loaded test slope. Skier triggered shooting cracks on a wind-loaded test slope. About 6 inches of new snow on top of a thin melt freeze crust with a deep layer of wet snow below it. Minor cracking around my skis in sheltered terrain. Forecaster

Crown line profile showing no results on wind slab avalanche activity from yesterday. Many cornice kicks and ski cuts produced some entrainment of new snow, but no propagation. Crown line profile showing no ECTN results on storm slab instability from yesterday.  About 1' of new snow covering up crown and bed surface. Natural wind slab avalanche on the North side of Castle Peak that occurred yesteday. Some minor roller balls developing through the day off of rocks on Donner Summit. Forecaster
