These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Snowpack Observation
Fireplug

Mount Rose Area
Ongoing wind transport during SW gusts.Kicking small cornice features produced only loose dry, no slab failure. Forecaster

Snowpack Observation
Deep Creek

Cabin Creek, Deep Creek, or Pole Creek Area
Small shooting crack in sheltered below treeline terrain at 7000 ft. as the interface between the dense heavy snow on top of the snowpack and the lighter snow below it failed. Small wind slab crack on a N-NE facing test slope at 8200 ft.Large cornice failure triggered by a ski kick. No wind slabs released on the slope below.Debris from the cornice failure Forecaster

Small natural wind slab avalanche futher up ridge from remote trigger test slope failure (ESE aspect, 7,000').
Signs of recent natural cornice collapse and subtle evidence of a mostly refilled crown line (NE aspect, 7,240')
Rapid storm snow settlement at 6,500.

Snowpack Observation
Luther Pass

Luther Pass Area (including Job and Freel)
A small, shallow, natural triggered storm slab. Ski cuts immediately adjacent to this, and on a similar feature nearby, did not produce further propagation.Kicking test slopes showed obvious loose instabilities but snow was too un-cohesive to propagate. Professional Observer

Snowpack Observation
Jakes Peak

West Shore Area
Test slopes resulted in no slab formation.Minor cracking in wind loaded areas by mid day.Wind and snow transport increased by mid day.Small natural loose dry avalanches occurring in steep protected treed areas. Forecaster
